Emraan Anwar Hashmi (born 24 March 1979) is an Indian actor who appears in Bollywood films. Some of his films include Murder, Gangster, Awarapan, Jannat, Raaz – The Mystery Continues, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Murder 2 and The Dirty Picture.

Hashmi was born to Anwar Hashmi and Maherahh Hashmi. His father is a Muslim while his mother is a Roman Catholic.[1] After briefly changing his first name to Farhan, he decided to keep his original name.[1]
Hashmi made his film debut in 2003 with the film, Footpath, which did not do well at the box office.[2] He and co-star Mallika Sherawat shot to fame with the thriller, Murder (2004), which went on to become a super hit at the box office.[3] In 2005, he appeared in several films such as Zeher, Aashiq Banaya Apne and Kalyug,[4] which did moderately well at the box office.[5] In 2006, his film, Gangster was a semi-hit,[6] In 2007, Hashmi had three back to back releases; Good Boy Bad Boy, The Train and Awarapan.
In 2008, Hashmi's first release, Jannat had a 100% opening making it a critical and commercial success.[7][8] His first release in 2009, Raaz – The Mystery Continues, opened well and became the first box office success of the year.[9] His second film of the year, Tum Mile, opened to mixed reviews and was rated a box office failure.[10] In 2010, he appeared in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, which opened to positive reviews and was declared a hit at the box office.[11][12] In 2011, he starred in Mohit Suri's Murder 2, a sequel to the 2004 thriller Murder. The film opened well and was declared a blockbuster.[13]. His latest film The Dirty Picture was released on December 2, 2011.[14]
Hashmi is currently working on multiple films such as Shanghai,[15] Jannat 2[16], Raaz 3.[17] and Play.
Hashmi graduated from Sydenham College in Mumbai, India.[18] Pooja Bhatt, an actress turned writer and director, and Naseem Ismail as known as (RamsEz Baluch) from Karachi, is his cousins, while producers Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt are his uncles.[19] Hashmi married his long time girlfriend, Parveen Shahani on 14 December 2006.[20] He became father to a baby boy on 4 February 2010 and named him Ayaan.[21]
